Two common types of flash suppressors are the duckbill and birdcage suppressors. Duckbill flash suppressors have upper and lower "prongs" and direct gases to the sides. Early M60 machine guns and some early M16 models featured this type of flash suppressor. One disadvantage is that the prongs can become entangled with vines or other natural vegetation and objects in the field. Birdcage types still have prongs, but also feature a ring on the front to prevent vegetation from entanglement between the prongs. Another type of flash suppressor is a flash moderator, such as used on some CAR-15 models. An example of a cone-shaped hider is on the Bren machine gun and some models of the RPK and German MG3.

Amendment to protect active duty service members from DC gun laws
U.S. Congressman Phil Gingrey offered an amendment to the 2011 Defense Authorization Act that would have expressed the sense of Congress that active duty military personnel either living or stationed within the District of Columbia will not be subject to the DC Gun Ban. However, Democrats on the House Rules Committee blocked the amendment from receiving floor consideration.

Mayor Daley: How to distract a press corps
I had a couple of interesting exchanges about gun control last week. One was a reasonable debate with a guy from the National Rifle Association who thinks Chicago (and everywhere else) would be better off if concealed weapons were legal. The other was with Mayor Daley, who didn't like a question I'd asked him and suggested maybe he could make his point better by sodomizing and shooting me.
