Its a specific mount to use on a specific hand guard. And its a new company making new products. Over time the price may go down. And right now, its the only one of its kind. At least that I know of.

That being said, to me, a rifle sling on a rifle is like a holster for a pistol. I don't skimp on them. And in this case, this allows you to use a QD mount with no modifications to the gun. And, if you mount it to the aft end, it allows you to have a rifle sling mount that does not interfere with your grip on the gun and or any other forward mounted accessories. A lot of guys here have more money in rifle sling mounts then in the rifle sling itself. So this is not really uncommon. I see your point about cost. If you scroll up a forum, you'll find guys putting "budget" optics in LaRue Tactical or Bobro mounts. So the mount costs more then the optic.

Again I see your point. But if your gun is a tool, and you have a specific need, then the cost is washed out by the function. YMMV

Mossberg 500 Accessories -
While other brands say they have 'compression' technology, they do not. What they do have is outdated technology, either 'Peak Clipping' or 'Automatic Level Control'. 'Peak Clipping' turns the amplification system off when noise levels reach a preset decibel leaving the wearer with passive muffs. 'ALC' simply reacts to high noise levels by lowering the unit's volume so the louder sounds still drown out softer sounds. In both technologies loud noise levels compromise the ability to hear quieter sounds. Only Ridgeline's 'DLSC' technology protects hearing protection while at the same time allowing the wearer to hear lower volume sounds such as normal conversation. 'DLSC' works by instantly 'compressing' all noises over the 70 dB threshold by 50% to a safe level while amplifying all sounds below that to 70 dB. The result is the wearer will hear everything, including conversation, while simultaneously being protected from dangerous, high volume sounds. Block 1 - Gain and Volume Control This block amplifies the microphone. The gain can be adjusted from 0 dB to 40 dB. Block 2 - High Pass Filters Cuts the low frequencies below 300Hz, eliminating most of the wind noise and other low frequencies. Block 3 - Dynamic Level Sound Compression (DLSC�) This circuit automatically adjusts or compresses the input signal by as much as 45 dB. The DLSC will automatically adjust the internal gain in order to maintain the safe output level of 85 dB. Block 4 - Low Pass Filters Limits the high frequencies that are allowed to pass. There are recently imported Yugo's out there for around $279. Knowing how cheap they used to be I balk at the price but I've never heard anything bad about them.

ETA: Just found VG Yugo 59/66s at Samco for $259 and Excellent for $299. SOG may have some on their site, I don't have time to look right now.

I've had 3 different SKS's. A type 56 Norinco, a 59/66 Yugo, and a type 45 Russian (Tula). The only one worth anything was the Russian. I sold the other 2 and kept the "52 Tula. Russian SKS's are in the $450 - $600 range here in SW Florida. At the last fun show, July ????, a guy had a '54 Tula for $450 that was pretty nice.
My Russian goes bang every time. It's reliable and accurate. Save your money and get a Russian. You won't be sorry.

The Yugo 56/66 model is ok and right now Cabelas has a bunch on sale for $199.00, but I have never been a fan of them. Now if you can score a Yugo 59, they are sweet shooters but may cost you a little more. The Russian and Romanian I think are some of the nicest out there and I just put a Russian on layaway for $319, which is a decent price, but not great. I bought it to replace my other Russian that has a mismatched mag/floorplate.

Typical russians in the midwest are going in the $400 range with Romainians in the high 3's.

Check the equipment exchange often for deals as Christmas is coming and people will start unloading some stuff.

I had a hell of a time with mine, until I got all of the gunk out of the gas system.

After that, NOTHING stops it. It's also reasonably accurate, for what it is. I'm perfectly happy with it.

While I'd love to buy more at prices from several years back, $250-300 is still a pretty good deal for what you're getting. A reliable, 10 round, semi-auto rifle that is built like a tank.

Thanks for the information fellas. It didn't have a magazine when I got it so I bought one from Numrich. I went out this morning and shot it, it shoots as straight as an arrow. I have one problem though, I can't get the magazine out, I took it out once to reload and now it's stuck. It is probably because it's new and needs to wear in a little. I'm going to take the rifle apart and remove it.

He also gave me a Hembrug 1917 marked Dutch Carcano carbine in about the same condition as the 42M(b)(but the stock has been sporterized), a barrelled action for a 1898 Mauser, a Stock for a 1917 Eddystone, and a barrelled action for a Dutch Beaumont(rusty and unserviceable). He is coming to the shop tomorrow and said he has some more stuff for me, I'm curios to see what the next batch will consist of.
Valkyrie My buddy is ready to upgrade his new Mossberg 500 Accessories 590A1 with a dedicated weaponlight forend. He is gonna go with a surefire. He is also wanting to upgrade the system with a LED head from TNVC. The Surefire LED upgrade gives 100 lumens while the TX4 claims 600.

Here is the situation: If he were to use the 3V (shorter) forend there may be a possibility he can keep the bayo lug even with the added length of the adapter and TX4 LED head. If he were to use the 6V (longer) forend it states that the bayo lug must be removed.

In the pic on Surefire's website, it shows the 6V system with the bayo lug still on the tactical shotgun. The front of the light comes really close to the lug but it doesn't touch it and the forend only moves to the rear to cycle the firearm �� not any farther forward. Is this a photo shop deal?

Is the TX4 a longer head that it would contact the bayo lug after installed?

I love the sewn-in sling swivels - made the price almost a wash compared with ordering a padded sling & swivel separately, and I got a hat & another 'dillo along with the satisfaction of having more LT gear.

Still no Dillo Dust after a couple orders, though. Is there a certain amount you have to spend before getting any? So I am looking into my first AR15 purchase and after some great feedback from the AR15.com community, I have my heart set on LaRue.

In reviewing, I found the LaRue Tactical OBR 5.56 18" to really catch my eye, then later found the LaRue Tactical PredatAR 5.56 18" - though I see some of the differences in the features tab, I wanted to get some feedback from the LaRue Tactical community on the real major differences.

Talked to Doreen at EOTech. She says they want to take a look at your unit before they have me send mine in. Simply looking at the pictures, the technicians believe it may be normal, but they want to get a closer look at a unit up close to make sure. I am supposed to call back next week to see whether they believe it is going to be an issue, but for now they do not think it will be.
If you look at a few of the pictures on their site, a few of them show something similar. It looks like its normal for some EOTechs to have this. Here are two pics from their website that show the same issue:

Mine functions completely normally, and when seen in person without being blown up it looks exactly like the pictures above. I'd bet if you blew up the above pics, you'd find the same thing. As such, I'm betting this is completely normal, and I really think this will end up being a non-issue.

Try both types if you can as you may prefer one type over another. End of the day - it doesn't matter what I or anyone else thinks, its what works for you. happyal11/21/2011 10:52:53 AM I would say it's personal choice, so best advice is to see if anyone locally has one that you can try and see which one you like the best. I perfer the Eotech because I can get on target quicker, but if I trainined a little with the Aimpoint I think I'd like that just as much. If you want the best then go Mesa. the recoil reduction systems are totally different so it is hard to compare the stocks. I find the transistion of the weapon through the firing stage is a lot smoother with the Endine buffer then with the simple two spring system of the SpecOps. The one issue that may help you decide is that the Mesa has to fired from the shoulder to receive any recoild reduction as the Endine buffer is in the stock tube. The SpecOps has to two springs, the main one is in the pistol grip so you still get the benifit of recoil reduction when shooting from the hip. Yeah, I know NC star is at the bottom of the list, but the wife bought it being nice and I actually like it alot. For $60 what the hell. She likes it and it is the house HD gun which she also shoots. My buddy and fellow deputy bought a Knoxx stock from Sportsman’s Guide for under 85 bucks, so the price was great! Shooting that thing is a dream, but the pistol grip is a bit on the large size to be able to accomodate the spring. I like the poster who put a grip sleeve on it, good idea, as the plastic on the Knoxx is slick. I just got a Mossy 590A1 with the 8 shot mag tube. I don’t like the factory pistol grip set up, so I’m leaning towards the Knoxx for mine and the cheek pad and 5 shot holders as I feel that will balance out the nose heaviness of the 590A1. Installing the Knoxx is a breeze and my buddy swears by it. Again, if you have small hands the grip my be a bit on the largeish side for you.

I know the battery is too large so it’s not even possible, but the only way it could have been better was if it could somehow fit a spare battery like my old M3 and LaRue Tactical mount did. As it stands though, it’s perfect. I can fit one on top of my ACR grip plug though so it’s not an issue.

But after watching this (BAC flash video from Trijicons site), it seems that once you get used to the magnification the transition from an EOTech to the ACOG with BAC shouldn’t be too difficult.

Does this theory hold water?

No such problem with the Aimpoints unless you crank the illumination level up way too high. The battery life on the Aimpoint is also far superior. All in all I like the Aimpoints better. I was quite surprised that the 4moa dot can shoot pretty decent groups even at 100 yards (the farthest I can shoot at my range). I don’t think slam fires are a problem on properly maintained SKS Rifle Stocks rifles otherwise everyone would be selling springs for them.

You’re going to need the rail. The 512, FTS, and BUIS take up too much real estate and the Eotech 512 will not clear the M4 handguards without a riser.
If you’ve got LRT rails you should be fine. I’m running the 512, FTS, and Troy BUIS on mine. While the Eotech 512 anchors to the upper, the snout is out over the rail.

I saw a guy with one on his SKS Rifle Stocks at Knob Creek.

It’s not too small if you’re using it right. The size of the tube is almost irrelevent if your shooting with both eyes are open. You’re not really aware of the tube, per se…. the red dot just appears to float over the target. Remeber that you don;t shoot with an RDS like it’s a scope. The size of the tube effects the viewing angle. This means you can pick up the dot quicker on a larger tube Aimpoint when you bring your rifle online from a low ready. The M4 is only fractions quicker than a T-1, but that might mean something to you. I think the shooter’s cheekweld is a bigger factor than what size Aimpoint. Generally I prefer the M4S to the T-1 and shoot just a bit faster with it, such as on my 10.5″ AR SBRs. And it’s not really about “losing the dot” in rapid fire drills, it’s about optical comfort. But on my M-92 Krinkov (won right here in the ar15.com ‘s raffle), I am consistently faster and more accurate with the T-1 vs the M2/3/4. And that is reguardless of handguard or receiver mount. Sometimes it’s just what you are comfortable with. This is just an awesome combination. Everybody that picks it up shoots the heck out of the targets with it. Prone, resting the fore end on the range bag,it’s almost unbelievable how fast you can pour it to a target.

Just got my first Aimpoint. Never looked through one before and just went for it. I’m happy overall with the clarity of the optics. Just one thing, though. I notice that (when looking through it) the bottom half of the glass along the perimeter has a lot of blue tint. I didn’t notice it until I looked through it at night in a dimly lit room. It’s as if the coating is thicker there. I have Ar's, FAL's, and M1A's--If I had to grab one and go it would be one of the FAL's.
But my only answer to a terrible dilemma like this was to get a couple of each.
If you do go the STANDARD M1A Accessories route, try to find one with a GI barrel

I love my Springfield M1A. Like you said, you'll get anotherAR15down the road. (like I did) but I really enjoy having an M1A Accessories in my closet. A lot of fun to shoot, no offense - but I thought it was more fun than the FALs that I shot. That's why I chose it.

Get the M1A.

I have a loaded Springfield that I bought years ago. Never had a problem with it.
The sights on an M1A Accessories are much nicer than any FAL that I have ever shot.
I would take an M14 style rifle over an FAL anyday.

As for the mags, you can buy them cheap now that the assault weapons ban is gone.

I am giving serious thought to the LRB arms one with the forged reciever and all USGI parts.

I would go with a FAL. It's a good reliable weapon, and the mags are much cheaper than the M1A. The rifle itself is generally cheaper too.

If you are going on the cheap, I'd have to say get the Fal.

I own ARs, M1As and Fals. In all honesty, the Fals do just as good a job as the M1As, I just have a thing for the M1/M1A.

Total round count on it is probally right about 9 or 10k between a midlength and 5.45 S&W AR upper. Dropped it optic first during a tumble at one of the Magpul classes. Just some scuffs and good to go. My ego not so much. It's an expensive proposition but definitely worth it. Spend the money on good optics and mounts and they will take care of you. They are a model Comp Aimpoint M3 (2 MOA), two M4s sights and two T-1 micro sights. Comp Aimpoint M3 (2 MOA)- This was my first Aimpoint optic and I have owned this for a few years. I have used this sight with a few thousand rounds (5.56 / .223) fired through a Bushmaster AR 15. This model uses a 3v lithium battery (2L76 or DL31/3N) and I still have not burned down the 1st battery. The battery life is 5+ years (50,000 hrs day setting) and 500,000 hrs in NV mode. This model has the ACET / advanced circuit efficiency technology. This reflex collimator LED red dot sight is available in 2 or 4 MOA. I have to say that this is a strong/tough and well-made optic.

I do have them in my SKS's Even without the spring installed, they offer a reduced chance of a slam fire. Instead of a conical shaped firing pin head pushing up into a conical shaped hole, the pin is just round at the end and never contacts the conical hole in the bolt.

The one real problem with them is that if you have a pierced primer the flame entering the bolt through the hole will take the temper out of the spring and render it useless. Even with the spring in this condition the pin still functions properly. Mr. Murray has also discovered what seems to be the cause of a lot of these pierced primer incidents. On a lot of SKS Rifle Stocks bolts, there seems to be a burr or raised edge around the firing pin hole on the face of the bolt. By removing this burr it stopped my SKS's from having any more pierced primers.

I have a Eotech 512 and 552, unless you will even uss NVGs Eotech 512 is a good option. I have even mounted my 552 on my AR-50 50BMG and it handled the recoil great. It will work fine out 200 meters.

Finally got my C&R Yugo from the store today. I don’t think this thing has ever been cleaned.Did that SKS Rifle Stocks Bullpup stock ever go anywhere? Does anyone have one? I have an SKS Rifle Stocks that I would like to make a little more interesting.

EDIT:

The G2 LED is a very good weapons light if you have an AR, but is too long for your S&W. I’ve had poor experience with Insight for both light-only and light-laser. I don’t like the locking mechanism on their units, and was disappointed in the lights. Not as bright as the LED competitors from streamlight and SureFire, and focus was not as good. There really isn’t a bad SKS Rifle Stocks unless dome dumb hick dragged it through the TAPCO catalog. They are fun guns to shoot. Every gun owner should have one.

$295 is pretty fair in today’s market for a norinco. You can find them for slightly less, but it will take lots of time and persistence to save $30-$50.

Don’t need titanium, my TA01′s adjust themselves to ambient light coming in without electronics, and I would rather have a LaRue mount anyway (already tried the ARMS mounts). Unless you are bench resting andshooting targetsshooting, you probably will not notice any difference between 7n6 and quality (Fed, IMI, etc.) 556.

I have an LWRC M6AK and it shoots essentially as well as my 556.

Terminal ballistics of 7n6 are better (IMO) than all but the exotic 556 rounds.

I have a M1S with 20″ bbl and float tube, NM iron sights, plain muzzle.
From the prone position as in Service Rifle, it will hold the X ring @ 100 yards using the SR-1 and SR-21 targets, using surplus.
Sorry, but I don’t have any scanned in. I built this for the kid to have cheap short range practise and it becomes everybody’s favorite once they shoot it….

Kind of a drift but is there really much of a gain (other than sight radius if using irons) in going with the 20″ barrel instead of a 16″? I mean the 5.45 velocity is up there anyway and doesn’t lose much out of a short barrel so does the extra few inches stabilize even more to show a big difference accuracy wise?

5.45 was designed for use in 16″ barrels, and has some great velocity already out of a 16″, so I see no practical benefits in a longer pipe. Vuurwapen did a great video on 5.45 at 600yds, and printed some nice groups at that range as well, which is way more performance than the Soviets ever envisioned for the caliber, unless talking about a long-barreled RPKS-74.

If you search, there was a recent post (not necessarily here ) by someone who modified PMag followers to work with 5.45 to near if not full capacity. Unmodified, the case taper of the 5.45 round causes the rounds to bind at far less than full (30 round) capacity.

I don’t know as I have had what I guess is extremely good luck with C-Products mags.

Exotic rounds, yes; others no.

The “not really a hollow point” tip of 7n6 allows the nose to “collapse” on impact and tumble.

Remember, we are talking about surplus rounds which are around $0.15 each, not exotic Mk7422 at $1.00 each.

If I had a choice of which I was going to be shot with, it would NOT be 7n6 5.45.

It’s as accurate (or consistent I guess) as the 5.56 stuff I paid double for. At least it is once I realized how important Loctite is on mounting screws…

I will call ADCO. I was just wondering if you had it done what the procedure would be shipping a lower for repair or modification. Would I have to ship it and receive it through a FFL dealer ?

Unless this changed recently, you do not need to involve an FFL holder to ship rifles for repair and it can be sent back to the person who sent it.

You do not have to ship through FFL. ADCO is a dealer/FFL. Have done this many times. It will come back to your house.

This. ADCO is an FFL so they can receive the lower for repair. They can ship back to your home address. It is being returned, not transferred.

Handy little carbine. The M44 is a combination flash bang grenade, flame thrower, rifle and spear all in one.

No, You can ship it direct to them & they can send it back to you!

But a more important question, unless there is something wrong with the BCG, why bother with removing it?

I have a late model pre-ban lower.Sent it to M60joe.com to take out the block then he plugged and recut my hammer/trigger pin holes so I can use standard .154 parts and pins.Removing the block was $80 that included shipping and about $400 to have the lower holes redone and the lower refinished a nice matte black.I got the lower stripped for $250 so now I have a $1250 invested in preban with no block and normal size holes..he does great work.Adco does too but I only use them for barrel work.

What if the carrier breaks? Colts modification pretty much made the BCG proprietary. If I needed to replace the BCG I would then have to send off for repair . I thought if I de sporterized it now I could still use the neutered BCG until it needs to be replaced.

How often do carriers break? Even in hard use Military rifles. Your bolt will break well before then.
Plus, its not like one cannot find a Colt “sporter” carrier out there…

Seems to me (Almost all of my ARs have the block) that the cost of having the block taken out does not outweigh the small gamble of having to replace the bolt carrier.

If there is a seer block installed you would know it. It would lock up your rifle and you would be unable to even pull the CH back. That is the case with my rifle anyway.

I have at least a few thond rounds through several different SKS Rifle Stocks rifles and have never experienced a slam fire.

Just realize that the possibility exists and maintain proper muzzle discipline and it should never be a problem.

Keep and eye out for them on gun broker also.

The M4 is more 922r intensive than the M1 or Benelli M2 Accessories with the availability and desire for the collapsible stock. I have both and they each serve a purpose. I love the M1A Accessories SOCOM for it's excellent balance, relatively light recoil (superb muzzle brake), and phenomenal reliability and durability. Understand that I consider one malfunction in 1000 rounds a problem. The heritage of the M14 is an intangible of value for me as well. I gave up trying to put a conventional scope on the M1A Accessories and just went with a scout scope, irons, or red-dots. Stock M1As are plenty accurate as battle rifles, but you won't take one to a match with out bedding the action. The .308 AR is a lot of fun, and so far reliability is actually great. I hope it does better than some of my .223 rifles when it gets dirty. The AR doesn't require bedding and is great to scope and accessorize. ARs are expensive metal Lego sets for men, and we should just admit that up front. I won't use the cliche of telling you to get both, but that's what I did. For their individual merits, I think the M1A Accessories and AR-10-pattern rifle are each at the top of their given genre. You'll get great AR advice here and you'll get great M1A Accessories advice at www.M14forum.com. If you just want a neat gun to blast, get either one. You won't be disappointed. I'm saying that is the way it is done in the military. Match and specialized sniper/long range ammunition is far from underloaded. There are specialized gas plug screws made fro the M14 Scope Mounts type rifle that allow a wide variety of ammunition to be utilized so there is no drawback to choosing one over an AR10 type platform for civilian use and again, a properly manufactured and heat treated modern M14 Scope Mounts type receiver is no less reliable than a modern manufactured AR10 two piece receiver system. Price wise, there is no advantage of one rifle over the other as comparable rifles of both systems are priced comparably once a scope mounting system is added to the M14 Scope Mounts type rifle and optics with rings are added to both. I will concede in the civilian arena, the AR10 allows the owner to more readily change barrels with less trouble than changing the barrel on an M14 Scope Mounts type rifle but doing so on a regular basis will place undue wear and strain on the AR10 upper receiver so this trait really only provides the individual builder the option of creating a specialized rifle built to his specifications and doing most or all of the work him/herself.. There are plenty of very good M14 Scope Mounts gunsmiths working in the civilian sector and they will do barrel changes at reasonable rates if it is determined to be necessary. Once the barrel is installed on the receiver, ALL of the rest of the work necessary to build a rifle can be accomplished on the M14 Scope Mounts type rifle just as easily as the AR10 type rifle by the individual builder so very little advantage goes to the AR10 verses the M14 Scope Mounts in this aspect. I have a M14 Scope Mounts-EBR myself so I am not hating on the system. Just pointing out how the AR-10 is cheap and easy to work on. If it is easy for me, then it will be easy for the Army. One thing I learned is availability of USGI M14 Scope Mounts parts are rare. I can't even pick up a M14 Scope Mounts USGI bolt anymore at a decent price. $250 for a stripped USGI Bolt seems to be the going rate now (and another $75 to lap and headspace). Again, if it is rare for me, it's probably rare for the Military too. Supply has to be running about dry by now even with all those parts we had in stock. A complete ready to do AR-10 bolt is only $115 and I don't have to pay anyone to install it. A cheap non-usgi M1A is now about $2200 with a Sage stock and no scope mount. A Forged AR-10 with Chrome Line Barrel is $1500 with FF rails, CTR stock, and scope mount. I am no rocket scientist, but I can swap everything on my AR10 myself. I am not a big fan of "I must take my car to the shop to change oil". To me swapping a bolt or barrel for my AR10 is free. For a M14 Scope Mounts it's $75 each time. Now SR-25's are dam expensive, and I have no idea why as it is really not that much different than an AR-10. Maybe the US Military will be wise like the Canadian Military and pick up AR-10's?

I didn't have a Mossberg 500 Accessories 590 in Iraq, we carried old Winchester 1200 Defenders (wooden stock, 5 round capacity, heat shield)

But the one part of the question I can answer is we carried Federal 00 buck shells.

Nice rifle but put her in some nice wood for christsakes. You spent all that money and time and effort on the steel. That rifle is screaming for a presentation grade piece of figured walnut. OP, This guy is right when he says have a fat wallet and lots of time. Also, unless you have experience and tools for the build, be damn sure you pick a decent smith. i have a yugo m59/66 and it is a very good sks…as sks’s go, you need to try to get one unissued etc. The main problem with surplus 59/66 sks’s is the use of corrosive ammo in the gas system causing pitting and leakage. If you watch and get a unissued they run just fine.

There are recently imported Yugo’s out there for around $279. Knowing how cheap they used to be I balk at the price but I’ve never heard anything bad about them.

ETA: Just found VG Yugo 59/66s at Samco for $259 and Excellent for $299. SOG may have some on their site, I don’t have time to look right now.

I’ve had 3 different SKS’s. A type 56 Norinco, a 59/66 Yugo, and a type 45 Russian (Tula). The only one worth anything was the Russian. I sold the other 2 and kept the “52 Tula. Russian SKS’s are in the $450 – $600 range here in SW Florida. At the last fun show, July ????, a guy had a ’54 Tula for $450 that was pretty nice.
My Russian goes bang every time. It’s reliable and accurate. Save your money and get a Russian. You won’t be sorry.

The Yugo 56/66 model is ok and right now Cabelas has a bunch on sale for $199.00, but I have never been a fan of them. Now if you can score a Yugo 59, they are sweet shooters but may cost you a little more. The Russian and Romanian I think are some of the nicest out there and I just put a Russian on layaway for $319, which is a decent price, but not great. I bought it to replace my other Russian that has a mismatched mag/floorplate.

Typical russians in the midwest are going in the $400 range with Romainians in the high 3′s.

Check the equipment exchange often for deals as Christmas is coming and people will start unloading some stuff.

I had a hell of a time with mine, until I got all of the gunk out of the gas system.

After that, NOTHING stops it. It’s also reasonably accurate, for what it is. I’m perfectly happy with it.

While I’d love to buy more at prices from several years back, $250-300 is still a pretty good deal for what you’re getting. A reliable, 10 round, semi-auto rifle that is built like a tank.

Unrealistic may be the word to use, and here's why. They couldn't possibly know the battery will last that long at the time of relase. What they do is use math and previous examples as a sanity check. They know a battery is capable of storing so much energy. They know what the LED would draw. They also know that it isn't likely to run a LED for that long constant on. So they make a circuit that blinks the LED so fast that to the human eye it is always on (not to mention there is a time factor for the LED to wither once voltage is removed). Now for only fractions of a second we are on or off (conserving energy). A bit more math, and wow it looks to last 80,000 hours (or whatever the spec. is). Why is this possibly unrealistic? Math is perfect, and the world isn't. There are always unaccounted for variables. Bad/cheap/old/fluke battery - brightness settings - temperature - and so on. I'd say anything even approaching the specified time is great and just means you had good luck with the battery and used it in the conditions it was modeled after. Someone else may only get 2 years, and the way I see it this isn't a failure. It just means it was used beyond the ideal conditions or had a shitty battery. Now if there is a trend where most people are falling short on battery life, then maybe Aimpoint's ideal usage model was a bit conservative to fluff sales with inflated battery life numbers. Most people I know are amazed when the damned thing is still running at 1/2 to 3/4 of the estimated life (don't know anyone at or beyond it though).

Go to www.sksboards.com and start posting, and looking there. You can also post a WTB ad, but you may have to make a small donation to the site. That sorta makes you a of the site and lets you see the all of the classifieds and post in the classifieds as well.
Was at a local shop and saw a Glnic imports SKS Rifle Stocks marked "CGA made in China" . It is in excellent condition, all matching, machined trigger group, screw in barrel, and spike bayo. They want $295.00. Never heard of this importer or manufacturer. Is this a good gun?

I have a YHM angle mount, I’ll have to try it on my A2 carbine with the Surefire and Dieter.
I used it before with the TD tape switch rail cover but really didn’t find it to give me any advantage over the 9:00 mounting.

No problem.

It’s a three slot. I got it with some other stuff, thinking I’d never really attach it.
It surprised me how how much I like it…The push-button lines up with the tip of my thumb perfectly and casts less of a barrel shadow with it further form the rail.

Here it is for a lefty like me, works really well and the ARMS throw lever (underneath) barely clears the Dieter grip by -0.25mm.
I got this 5 slot angle Scope Mount and thumbscrews from Brightflashlights when I was experimenting around light and tape switch positions.
I finally came into the 21st century (difficult for an old guy like me) and got a verticle grip for the carbine from Rusty at DSGArms.com.
With the light set pretty far back, it’s really easy to strobe the light with your thumb while maintaining controll of the weapon.
Many thanks mfingar, I had forgotten about even having the angle mount.

I have a Tula, 59/66 and a Polytec. never had a problem out of any. but, then again I clean mine

I do have them in my SKS’s Even without the spring installed, they offer a reduced chance of a slam fire. Instead of a conical shaped firing pin head pushing up into a conical shaped hole, the pin is just round at the end and never contacts the conical hole in the bolt.

The one real problem with them is that if you have a pierced primer the flame entering the bolt through the hole will take the temper out of the spring and render it useless. Even with the spring in this condition the pin still functions properly. Mr. Murray has also discovered what seems to be the cause of a lot of these pierced primer incidents. On a lot of SKS Rifle Stocks bolts, there seems to be a burr or raised edge around the firing pin hole on the face of the bolt. By removing this burr it stopped my SKS’s from having any more pierced primers.

Depending on how far back the rear sight is installed, the Saddle Rail could fit on your shotgun with no alterations. And, yes, you can sight right down the central channel in the rail. If your rear sight is installed too far forward and there is interference with the Saddle Rail, a few minutes with a Dremel on the aluminum Saddle Rail should allow it to be installed. Yeah, I thought about paracord and of course that would be the simpliest and cheapest way to go. Here is the sling. If you're not familiar with it the clamp on the right goes to the buttstock and the clamp to left goes to the front.

I thought about one of these, but not sure if it will fit through the rifle sling mount on the Krink.

Oh lord.....please don't use those detachable rifle sling mounts. That would look terrible on a Krink. Go with the paracord, or see if your local hardware store has some sort of small ring that you could modify and paint black to use in place of the key ring. Start with the aisle where they sell all the chain link. Many of times have I walked the aisles of my hardware store looking for something that I could customize for some project, but gun and non-gun related.

Your rifle sling looks like really good quality, but I'm a little puzzled as to why they made it with the super-size attachments. They look strong enough to carry a loaded GE Mini Gun.

HK-style attachements like the one below would have made so much more sense.

Okay, Tactical T you convinced me. I went par-cord. My buttstock is wrapped in green, so I went with green up front. I tried it out on my MS2 rifle sling I already have and it seems to do the job.

I prefer the one-point system. If I were to have to hike or just standing around waiting to shoot, the 2-point is good. After moving to the front hook up I can simply push the rifle over my shoulder and it's on the back and out of the way. When it's time to go just pull the buttstock back to the front and there she is. I was shocked to see the difference of weight distribution from 1point to 2point. But I like shooting with the 1point the best.

Sling is suppose to be here tomorrow. I will then post pics, cause I changed the Aimpoint to a Sig red dot and the weight dropped considerably with that modification.This will be used in a military setting (foot patrol/mounted patrol) with an IOTV and maybe a chest rig. I will need to go from combat ready, to hands on chow sling. I've been thinking about the Magpul ASAP and Magpul MS2 slings, but don't want to be tunnel visioned by the kool aid. What are my best options -

If all else fails, I'd buy everything from a vendor with a good return policy so you're not stuck with something if it doesn't work.

Yea....I had already researched the whole internet and seen that EOTech websight info and picture too.

Best bet is to SIMPLY ask EOTech if it would work, before spending a lot of time and money buying and then trying to return stuff to vendors who don't deserve nonsense.

Doreen with EOTech responded via email before 0800 this morning. She wants the sight back. Being LE, she said she would mail me a new one out today or tomorrow and I can then send them mine back. I can’t say that she can do this for everyone but she is doing it for me being that this is on my duty rifle. They will fix the issue though.

If most of your shooting is 100yards+ then an ACOG with BAC rounds out your capabilities quite well.

Personally, I do a bit of everything but more at closer ranges so I use an EOTech with magnifier.

The fact that it was magnetic meant that it had a very high carbon/iron content, which made the metal in the screw too soft! This would explain why the screw was deformed. FYI, the stock Benelli Accessoriesscrews were just barely attracted to the same magnet, which meant they were high-alloy or hardened screws. So, what we have here, is a defective product. The screws that Mesa Tactical are using, are WAYYY to soft, and no matter how much loc-tite you use, they WILL eventually come undone. What my father suggested, is to replace them with a high-grade stainless steel, or a HARDENED carbon steel screw (although he stressed to use the stainless) I will be ordereing some good quality stainless steel screws, and i will give you guys an update on how they work out. In the mean time, i have the stock rail back on, and the screws FEEL much better when they torque down. For some re-assurance, i've never torqued the Mesa screws down more than the manufactorer stated (at 18-20 pounds) and i've used Blue Lot-tite.

Here were my main concerns about theTrijicon RMR before purchase.
1. Wash Out
a. Even in a dark basement with a 75 lumen flashlight it was not a problem.
2. Size of Dot
a. I can easily hold groups at 1-1.5 MOA at 50m and 2 MOA at 100m, better than I can do with iron sights and up close it is fast and easy to shoot both eyes open (even for a left eye dominant right handed shooter).

Here are some pics of the dot, sorry about the quality, I took them on my phone.

Pics were with the ARMS mount and the new Am. Def. mount doesn�t block the front sight as much.

Overall I am very happy. The sight was $325 shipped and the mount was $70.91 shipped Total of $395.91 or about $100 less than an aimpoint H1 with similar mount. If Trijicon made a 4MOA Dual Illuminated model I would recommend theTrijicon RMR over the aimpoint micro hands down. As it sits, I say it is a toss up depending on need and operational use. In TEOTWAKI I would prefer the RMR, for operational use anywhere else I would say the aimpoint is probably a better sight.

The FAL was probably cheaper to build, and fitting was much easier and some replacement parts are much faster to change out. That said, most problems in the battlefield resulted from poor maintainance, not broken parts.

Even with the problems I had with the original 511, I prefer EOTechs due to the reticle design. I find the 65 MOA ring/1 MOA center dot perfect. The 65 MOA outer ring greatly aids in acquiring targets at close range, and the fine resolution of the 1 MOA center dot is great for shooting 200-300 yards. The only thing I dislike is the fact that the brightness always resets to its medium setting, requiring several button pushes to bump it up for shooting in bright daylight. The 1000 hour rated battery life is fine with me – I’m not going into combat and I generally always find some AAs laying around if I need to change batteries once a year. Then on to my AR57 11″ upper for a bit (3 50rd mags) Didn’t like it on there as not much rail space on the rear of the upper. The new XPS would be perfect for that one. Now it is at home on my STG556 (appx 3,000rds now)

I put my LMT MWS upper on my DPMS 308 lower and it fit and function tested fine right before I sold my DPMS… just has a gap near the rear take down pin where the MWS is more angled and the dpms upper is more rounded. The extra rounded material is why the DPMS would not fit on the MWS lower. I asked Rainier to see if an MWS would fit on a MaTen lower and John came back saying that it did (MaTen has an angled lower so shouldn’t be much if any gap). Not sure about POF… it looks rounded like DPMS… if it fits DPMS uppers I bet it would fit an MWS upper. boarklr 6/25/2011 7:46:41 PM I’ve owned two Springfield m1a’s….a scout and a socom 16, and I had similar considerations to yours. Going to use some to make my own improved Wolf sling. Something that would be great with these hooks is some elastic fabric loop covers to keep these quiet and scratch free. Seen such a thing on a great 3pt rifle sling by Military-Force. Loop plate is first rate.

Mossberg 500 Accessories -
I have a 3-9 Trijicon AccuPoint with a green mil dot reticle on my deer rifle. The green dot stands out even against a green background because the green in the scope is closer to being a "highlighter green" color. I went with the mil dot reticle because I often go antelope hunting in Wyoming, and I wanted a more precise reticle. I've heard great things about the triangle post reticle, and if you're hunting inside 250 yards that's what I would go with. Don't hesitate at choosing the green illumination. It's much easier to pick up for me than the amber color, and it stands out against every background. I'll try to scrounge up a picture or two of the reticle and post it back here. Pictures would be great! Thanks in advance! I agree with you on the triangle. Especially with the BAC, I would think it would be the way to go under 300 yards! There is no added noise or flash from an 18" barrel with a flash hider and the loss of velocity is less than 200 fps. Neither you or your target will notice the difference in velocity. bishopm14

2/23/2006 1:54:50 AM I've got both, a Fulton receivered Bush build and aSpringfieldfull size. Both are great. The Fulton receiver leaves a bit to be desired in the external looks department. Needs more finish work. But perfectly functional. The 7.62 is better suited to a longer barrell, but you aren't turning it into a peashooter with an 18" barrell. Comparing mine side by side, the shorter barrell does have a bit more noise to it, not objectionable but is there. Anytime you shorten the barrell, you're gonna increase the noise a bit. Same with muzzle flash usually.As far as range, you're sight calibrations won't be quite right at longer ranges, but the notion of any rack grade, iron sighted 7.62 gas gun shooting standard ball ammo having an effective range of 900 meters, much less with a carbine length barrell is a bit laughable.(Isolated AFPJ stories notwithstanding)Yeah, every magazine's gonna have one or two "golden BBs" in at that range, but that's far from meaning that's the effective range, which last time I checked, was the range at which hit probability drops below 50%. QD rings. I can't subscribe to that single point style. This just drapes down acoss the chest without the magazine turning into the side. I also love the VTAC adjustable padded sling.

I have a SLAP on one rifle and my other is a DDM4 which comes with the DD end plate you can buy. I personally like both the same for use in single-point mode.

I might just try this method first. If not I've narrowed it down to four options, LOL; Magpul ASAP, SLAP, DD EZ CAR, or one from MI. I think the end plate style will look cleaner, and my buddy said it's not hard to remove a staked castle nut.

So, I'm going to order a QD ring first, then go from there.

It's actually the receiver end plate that is staked, not the castle nut.

I use an ikickhippies mount, but the Magpul ASAP is good as well.

Noveske makes a QD endplate as well and it's considred the most low profile one out there. Buy Here

MOUNT-N-SLOT I have decided to go with the new Magpul MS2 sling. I just got one for my AR and love it. Best one-point rifle sling I have ever used. Now, I want one for the Krink. So, here is the problem. As far as running it one-point there is no problem, but if I want to run it two-point the clasp will not fit in the Krink's rifle sling mount up front. So, at the moment I simply put the thickest key ring I could find through the mount. It works, but I just don't know if the keyring can handle the weight for long.

You guys got any suggestions -

My gripe is with the elastomer system. When I was shooting bird shot, the shells that I had in the sidesaddle held fine. But when I started to shoot slugs and buck shot, the shells would slowly slide down and if allowed, would eventually fall out (storing the shells upside down). Also you are not supposed to store shells in the sidesaddle for extended periods of time which for me defeats the purpose of having a sidesaddle. What really irks me is the fact that they can't at least stop using the old packaging stencil that has a place marker for a SX2/Browning Gold version. Anyways, thanks OP! The little Polarized lens Trijicon ships with the Reflex helps a bit, but it is very flimsy. The EOTech "donut of death" reticle is amazing for close quarters shooting and the 1 MOA dot in the center is great for long distance shooting. Battery life is ok with the EOTech, but not to the level of an Aimpoint.

Sukebe 10/29/2003 5:01:44 AM There is no single, definitive data base regarding the importation dates or dates of manufacture for Chinese M14 Accessoriesclones. The importation began sometime in the late 80's(probably 88/89). These rifles were effected by the 89 imported "assault weapons ban" (took effect in 1990). This ban like the 94 ban addressed the cosmetic features of the rifle. The configuration was changed to comply with the ban and they were banned from further importation in 93 IIRC. Thus, all Chinese M14's in the USA were here before the 94 ban. Of course, not all are technically pre ban. They had to be configured as AW's prior to the 94 ban. That means that after the 89 ban, the rifle must have been "rebuilt" with the correct type and number of domestically manufactured parts to no longer be considered an "imported assault weapon" (much the same as the AK's coming in now). Prior to the 94 ban the rifle must have legally been in an AW configuration. Some of these rifles while imported prior to the 94 ban, were held by importers and not sold to distributors until after the ban. These can not be configured as AW's until after the 94 ban expires. Even then, as "imported AW's", they must be "rebuilt" with domestic parts to be configured as AW's. The 89 ban still applies and does not expire with the 94 ban. One way to tell when your rifle was imported and sold is to contact the importer. Even then, it's a crap shoot. Many of the importers are no longer in business. The ATF may or may not be willing/able to trace the rifle for you. I've heard that they are obligated under the "Freedom of Information Act". I've also heard that they don't trace firearms unless the weapon is part of an on going investigation. The only other way is to have a paper trail from the original owner to you. Another thing to consider is that nobody seems to be sure that these rifles were imported in order of serial number though it is generally accepted that low serial numbers are early imports and high serial numbers are late imports. Incidentally, these rifles are still being imported into Canada as well as a number of other countries. $550.00 is a great price. Stock up on U.S.G.I. parts and work to keep the AW ban from being renewed. This is the law as I understand it, YMMV. It is your rifle after all. Do with it what you please, at your own risk. Polytech Insustries is a Chinese marketing firm that sold the better finish Norinco made M14 Accessoriesrifles. They are sold as Polytech Industries brand M14 Accessoriesrifles. Chinese semi-automatic M14 Accessoriesrifles have been exported to Canada, Norway and the United States for sale to private owners. Three companies imported Chinese M14 Accessoriesrifles into the United States prior to the September 1994 enactment of the Violent Crime Control Act. IDE and Keng's imported Polytech Industries M14/S rifles. Century Arms International imported both Polytech Industries and Norinco M14 Accessoriestype rifles. Polytech Industries M14/S rifles in the U. S. are generally regarded as pre-94 ban. Some of the Norinco M14 AccessoriesSporter rifles were sold prior to 09/13/94 and some were warehoused by the importer then sold after 09/13/94. If a Chinese made M14 Accessoriestype rifle was not assembled with sufficient U. S. made parts prior to 09/13/94 (to allow installation of a flash suppressor per the March 1989 import ban) the rifle must comply with the 1994 ban on semi-automatic rifle features. It is best for the owner of a Chinese made M14 Accessoriesrifle to check with the U. S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives regarding a specific rifle serial number. Some of the Polytech Industries M14/S rifles are marked on the receiver heel and some are not. In either case, the serial number is stamped on the receiver below the stock line. Norinco M14 Accessoriestype rifles are marked M-14, M14 AccessoriesSporter or M305 on the scope mount side of the receiver. Polytech Industries rifles have a better reputation for receiver surface machining and finish over the Norinco stamped rifles. The Presidential Executive Order import ban of March 1989 affected the Chinese M14 Accessoriesrifles brought into the United States. Subsequent to the import ban, Chinese M14 Accessoriestype rifles entered the US market with a rubber recoil pad instead of the buttplate, the bayonet lug ground off, the flash suppressor castle nut welded on and the flash suppressor either removed or installed without the open slots. Some of the Chinese M14 Accessoriesrifles were rebuilt by the importer after the March 1989 import ban with U. S. made parts including the USGI flash suppressor. This was legal until the September 1994 ban. Additionally, after the March 1989 import ban Armscorp, Federal Ordnance and Century Arms International assembled M14 Accessoriestype rifles using American made receivers and Chinese parts sets. 10/29/2003 4:15:36 PM The Norinco M305(M14) Rifles that are up here in Canada also have metric threads for the gas cylinder lock.The threads are close enough for the castle nut that people have been using a USGI nut for their flashsuppressor and it seems to work.But the USGI gas lock won't work this way. For $399.00 Cdn, they are one hell of a deal up here.The rifles we are getting are of newer production and have none of the soft bolt issues of the earlier years.A fellow on our site did a hardness test of a newer Norinco bolt and a couple of USGI bolts.The USGI bolts were slightly harder then the Norinco bolt, but the Norinco was still within Mil Spec range for hardness. These rifles also feature a forged reciever and Op Rod. Most of us have been swapping in USGI parts when we can find them at a decent price.
