Company claims optical camouflage could have protected Israeli warfighters.
by David Crane
david at defensereview.com

Optical Cloaking Technology for Urban Warfare and Counterinsurgency Operations

According to Dr. R. A. Zeineh (a.k.a. "Dr. Z"), his company's (Advanced American Enterprise) IR-Stealth 4.B combination thermal/IR (infrared)/night vision (NV) stealth system could have protected Israeli infantry warfighters from Hezbollah guerrilla fighters in Lebanon. One of the recent new documents we've received from AAE discusses how the Hizbollah guerrillas used night vision (NV) equipment to kill two Israeli commandos (out of a 4-man team) near Baalback, Lebanon.

In other words, the Israelis didn't "own the night", and it got some of them killed. Dr. Z claims that AAE's technology could have changed the outcome of that unfortunate scenario. AAE claims to be able to provide a "head-to-toe pocket-size IR-Stealth enforced cloth coverall less than .3 Kg protects the night fighter and his armor from detection and from IR targeting." Put another way, AAE IR-Stealth 4.B tech weighing approx. 250 grams can be integrated with a military coverall or BDU to "cloak" an infantry warfighter so that he effectively becomes invisible to enemy thermal/IR (infrared) and NV (night vision) viewers and targeting devices. AAE claims that the IR-Stealth 4.B-equipped BDU/coverall will not hinder/interfere with the warfighter's ability to fight. The warfighter will still be able to breathe, see, hear, run, drive, shoot, speak/shout, climb, or carry an injured teammate--or perform any other battle-relevant behavior, for that matter.

According to AAE, current military BDUs/uniforms can be...

Hearing Protection

PRO-MAG PLUS
(DPM-1P & DPM-2P)

The Pro-Mag PLUS Hearing protection is the Big Boy when it comes to protection. The new PLUS model with the Pro-Form leather ear seals has an industry highest NRR of 33. The Pro-Mag PLUS Dimension model is designed for high noise situations or shooting in an enclosed area such as indoor ranges, shoot houses, very high caliber loads, demolitions, etc. Pro-Mag Dimension PLUS units will become a favorite choice for use by Range Masters/Instructors or anyone exposed to an extraordinary degree of loud noise. The DLSC circuitry means the officers will hear everything with the clearest, most natural sound quality ever captured, yet be protected against the dangerous sounds of explosions and weapon discharges

All Pro-Mag PLUS models are 7/10ths of an inch larger in cup size than the Pro-Slim PLUS models to accommodate additional insulation for greater sound attenuation. The new Pro-Mag PLUS models have the highest attenuation of all the models we offer with an NRR of 33, also note NRR 33 is the highest in the industry of any electronic hearing product. Available colors: Black, White & OD Green The Pro-Mag PLUS weight with batteries is 14.6 oz.

Eelectronic Hearing Protection

I've tried Peltors...Dillons and others, but prefer my Pro Ears by a long margin. As a firearms safety instructor the ability to hear, at all times, is paramount. Your product is the only one that does not "blank out" momentarily during loud noises. I've been using them for 4 years or so, and have no intention of replacing them with another product. Nothing else lives up to your standard Eelectronic Hearing Protection!

Thank you so much for the two pairs of Pro-Ears Predators. [We had the Predators] in time for our Stuntwomen's Association of Motion Pictures/NSSF Tactical2Practical II shooting seminar we held in November for the elite film industry stuntpeople and stunt coordinators. Everyone who attended got a chance to try them and they became the "must-have" of the weekend!

There are a number of companies that make electronic ear protection with amplification. The company I chose was Ridgeline, Inc. because their specifications were superior and their experience in various applications is extensive. I‘m very satisfied and impressed with their product.
mspmwg2

Eelectronic Hearing Protection

I bought these based on prior Pro-Ears purchases. Each set that I have bought has been better than the last. I buy them for friends as gifts (my originals are still going strong). I really appreciate the American Made commitment you have; it is my number one purchasing criteria. Your warranty is top notch (I've had to use it once) and your "ears" are the best in Eelectronic Hearing Protection . I wear them proudly on the range and in training.

I would like to thank the person responsible for the fast replacement of the mic covers for my sporting clay muffs. I needed them for competition this weekend and I received the covers today in the mail. Not only do you have a great product, but you stand behind it.

I want to thank you for your excellent customer service and response to my request. American business companies should learn how to take care of their customers like you do! Thank You!!!

AR-15 Acronyms

This replaces the old thread. As always, contributions and corrections are welcome.

For a broader list of DOD acronyms, abbreviations and terms, see Ghillie suit.

For acronyms and abbreviations in general, see this or this.

Here is the list of acronyms and abbreviations specific to AR-15 and AR15:

@ - When prefixed to a member's name, means that the following comment is directed "at" or to that member.
. - Used to add a post without typing anything, means "+1 to my post count, I have no new comment" or the same thing as BTT. Also sometimes left behind as a placeholder when someone deletes the content from a post or as a quick post to tag a thread.
+1 - When used with a quote, means the same thing as "Ditto" or "I agree". When used in the EE feedback forum, means a good experience with either a buyer or seller. When just posted with no reference, it means "+1 to my post count, I have no new comment" or the same thing as BTT...
-1 - When used in the EE feedback forum, means a bad experience with either a buyer or seller.
87 - A nonsensical answer to nonsensical numerical questions. For example, someone might ask "How many magazines should I buy?" There is no meaningful answer to this question because it varies according to each persons' unique circumstances, so the canned answer becomes "87". Originated by markm, presumably because he felt it a waste of time to answer such questions, it has since taken on a life of its own and is used by others who think it makes a funny in-joke. The number 87 is also associated with several other meanings in general usage.
88 - Short hand for a neo-Nazi or, more loosely, any white supremacist. Derived from "H" being the 8'th letter in the alphabet, and HH being an abbreviation for "Heil Hitler". The number 88 is also associated with several other meanings in general usage.

mspmwg3

AR-15 Acronyms A

A1 - Of or referring to a characteristic of the M16A1 (for example, an A1 rear sight)
A2 - Of or referring to a characteristic of the M16A2 (for example, an A2 flash hider)
A3 - Of or referring to a characteristic of the M16A3, or (in civilian parlance) a flat-top receiver. Note that the M16A3 is essentially just a full-auto M16A2, but civilian manufacturers began using the term A3 for flat-top receivers before the military adopted the M16A3 and M16A4, so there is divergence between military and civilian usage of the term "A3". Without a definitive military context, it is most likely that "A3" refers to a flat-top, civilian upper receiver. Note also that some civilian manufacturers call their flat-tops A3, others A4.
A4 - Of or referring to a characteristic of the M16A4 (for example, a flat-top A4 upper receiver)
ABC - Armalite, Bushmaster and Colt (considered by many to be the top three manufacturers of AR-15)

Democrats and guns
Clued in by reader Ron, I found this: Tester has won Montana, by most accounts. Notice the jab about the PATRIOT Act and guns. More Democrats like this please.

Speaking of not panicking
A little birdie told me that the phones at one of the prominent makers of evil black rifles has been busy for the last several hours.

Election smart assery. The good news is that lots of people owe me beer. I bet Corker would win and was right. So far, I retain my 100% accuracy on political beer betting. Tennesseans, by an overwhelming margin, are afraid of gay cooties. Braisted on Ford: As I’m watching MSNBC, they are already saying that [...]

In some ways, last night was wonderful: a firm repudiation of Republican war mongering and corruption. In others, it was disappointing.

Re: iron sights or scope - which is better?
Most of the 22 rifles on the market will readily accept a scope. You can pick uo a 22 scope for $8 at wallymart, made in China. Tasco has sold the same classic 4x15 for 40 years, still costs about $12. They also offer a $12 red dot sight from Crossman. If you use the larger knobs for the base of the rings, you can readily yank off the scope in the field if it becomes damaged. At these prices, they're cheaper than bullets. Get a rifle that will take a standard 22 scope, then use iron sights if you want, but maintain the option of adding a scope. PS: Now that red dot scopes are so inexpensive, the AR7 Scout can be topped with a FAMOUS MAKER scope for about nineteen dollhairs. The AR7 has always been my top favorite for wilderness survival. Deer rifles are nice, but in the real world you'd shoot a lot more rabbit than deer.

Re: what's the difference between centerfire and rimshot?
"Ok, dumb question, but what would I need 600 yards for? Or is it that if it's accurate to 600 it will be more accurate at the 50 to 100 yards.... " The cool thing is that most gun owners won't tell you what you "need", that parts up to you ; ) However, some people choose it because it's a different kind of shooting and accuracy. At 600 yards you learn (I am told by people like Ghengis...) to read the wind, consider trajectory and involve other factors that are irelevent to someone who shoots at 50 yards. That would be on reason to choose the more expensive, and faster .223 over far slower and less expensive .22 (he think he typo'd...)

Re: what's the difference between centerfire and rimshot?
Nice...CZs are supposed to be nice guns. One thing to keep in mind is that .22LR is only effectively accurate out to about 100 yards and a windy day can blow that. A .223 in a similar ifle might go out as far as 600 yards. The flip side is that .223 is really inexpensive ammo and you can afford to shoot with it a lot...

Re: Thinking of a new upper for the AR
With all of the stuff available for ARs right now, there is no way in hell I'd part with one. You should be pimping out that rat gun with extra picitinny rails, red dot sight, tac light... There is just so much stufffffff available for the M16 family. You could accessorize like Imelda Marcos! That Baeowoulf looks like fun, a step up to a deer cartridge. Be ready to pay through the anus for your ammo, even if you reload. You could get a douple rifle case and carry both upper & rifle, all James Bond-like.
