I bought it many, many years ago and it has been 100% on everything. Never a problem to date. I love my 512. 1st-Armored-Division: I own three EOTech HWS optics. They are a model 551/rev F, 552/rev F and a 552XR500. 551- I have had this optic for several years and have used this EOTech more than my other models. I have used this sight on two different Bushmaster ARs with over 3000 rounds fired with this optic mounted. I have also shot several dozen rounds through a Mossberg 12 ga shotgun. I have also fired a few hundred rounds with this one mounted on a AK, caliber 5.45x39mm. This optic is smaller in length compared to my other EOTechs and that would most likely be from the N batteries that it uses. The N batteries are IMO the only problem that I have had with this optic.

Vortex has an unconditional lifetime guarantee/warranty so you’re taken care of for as long as you own it. You can’t go wrong with an aimpoint PRO. There’s a LOT of mixed reviews about Eotechs.

I have an question about their online website selling their uppers, however. It appears by the description (although the description is pretty sparse) that the back-up sights that they add to the uppers are simply Magpul plastic BUS’s. I actually like the Magpul sights, and don’t have a problem with that – but, you can easily find a set of front-and-back Magpul sights for around $85-$90 online. Yet the difference in cost of the BEAR Elite uppers, for example, between the ones with sights and the ones without is $123.04. So, are the sights they are selling something other than the “regular” polymer Magpul sights? Or are they just hoping people are willing to pay $30-40 for the convenience of getting them already installed on the gun (a process that actually takes about 2 minutes – for a noob)? Just wondering…

The Magpul site is quite a bit confusing when you bring up their Ranger Plates. First off, I only use Magpul PMAG magazines, so I will be using their Ranger Plates solely with PMAGs. With that said, I notice there are two different versions available of their Ranger Plates. One 3-pack is the MAG212 item number, and the other 3-pack is the MAG020 item number. From what I gather, the MAG212′s are for use with Magpul PMAG magazines, and the MAG020′s are for use with USGI magazines…is this correct? I believe I’m correct, and already ordered some MAG212′s to use with my PMAGs. It’s just confusing that on the Magpul site, the picture and price shown are of the MAG212, but the item number they list is the MAG020. Doesn’t make much sense. Joe_Pennsy

Probably be too big…I have a friend who is roughly that size. Height-wise, it was fine. But it wouldn’t cinch down tight enough. Here’s what he wrote when I asked his size:

I am 6-3 and 180 lbs. As for chest size…..not sure but I’m pretty thin there too. My waist is 34 or 36 and my chest is close to that.

If I had soft armor on I could have fit the vest.

So there you have it.

Well thank you TimW for the honest reply.

I am playing around with the idea of buying a plate carrier now that I know plates are not toooo expensive. I was under the assumption that plates alone were in the $1000 range.

Currently for my gear set up I have x2 TT 5.56 Triple Mag Panel, x2 5.56/.223 Single Mag Pouch, HSGI Blowout Pouch, and a HSGI Mini Modular Radio pouch. Am I going to run into problems fitting all of that onto a plate carrier?

Oklahoma: True Emergency Powers Language and Firearms Omnibus Bill Head to Governor
On May 9, the Oklahoma Senate approved Senate Bill 1760 by an overwhelming majority, and today voted to pass Senate Bill 1733.  SB 1760 will guarantee “Emergency Powers” firearm protections during declared states of emergency, while SB 1733 is an omnibus firearms bill which contains significant improvements to Oklahoma firearms laws. Both measures now go to Governor Mary Fallin for her signature.  Your NRA-ILA continues our work to assist passage of additional legislation to expand firearm freedoms in the Sooner State, such as Senate Bill 1743, the “Landowner’s Hunting Freedom Act.”  Please remember to contact your state Senator and Representative to encourage his or her support of Senate Bill 1743.  The Oklahoma Legislature must finish their business by May 25, but an early adjournment is possible. 

Business owner holds burglars at gunpoint, KOKI, Tulsa Okla. 05/22/12
65-year-old Jerry Springer’s storage business in Tulsa, Okla. has been the target of at least a dozen burglaries since January 2012, when he underwent triple bypass surgery. So when Springer was alerted by a friend to yet another break-in at the facility, he grabbed a gun and went to investigate. When Springer arrived he spotted a pair of thieves pilfering cables and auto parts from one of the storage trailers. Springer confronted the criminals and held them at gunpoint until police could arrive. In an interview with local media, Springer made clear how upset he was with the thieves, stating, “I’ve earned what I got and I’m tired of people stealing it.” Springer went on to warn any would-be burglars, saying, “When they get in that yard I think it’s second degree, that’s 2 to 4 years; if you get caught by me that may be an eternity.”

Hows it work? It’s basically a needle valve with 12 dent positions per turn, one full turn is about 100% open. When used on my AR10 with standard 150 gr loads I get full function with it about half way open. When set to closed it is completely closed. I used 17-4 stainless for the construction. As others have said, puts the brass in a neat pile a few feet away with noticeably less/smother recoil. SICARIO

I was thinking we could have one that was dedicated to the SKS. I bought (layaway) a Yugo SKS Rifle Stocks today, I paid $251 (is that a good price?) total. It has the flip up grenade sight, and long muzzle device. Stock was dark (possibly dirty?), all numbers matched (don’t know if that’s a big deal?) and the pad on the butt plate was intact. I don’t know much about the SKS, but I’m betting someone here does. I’ll post up some pics of it next week.

SKS are good simple reliable rifles, hard to beat.
Order up some spam cans of ammo on stripper clips.
The stippers are resuable, and make loading fast.

Price, not bad these days, when SKS’s first started to get imported many years ago they where around $75 – $100 wholesell. Ammo was about that same price for 1100 on stippers and 1500 loose.
Should have put away a case of the russian ones. I like the looks of the older Russian ones, they are listed as C & R’s nowadays.

Its been reported, but I’m not sure if 100% fact, that China imported more SKS’s in a 3-5 year span then the entire production of Win. Model 94′s.

but i definitly re buying 2 crates of sks’s in 94 (pretty sure it was 94) for a grand total of about 45 dollars a rifle
couldn’t tell you what kind they were, i was all of about 16 and my “cousin” was 18, and at the time it seemed like an awesome idea.

as teenagers coming out of the cold war era we had a serious survivor mentality for some reason, so the crates and ammo we picked up with em went into a “cache” for a lack of a better word. where we “lived” at the time, that kind of stuff didn’t really raise any eyebrows. They guy we bought em from was a serious, old school, country, kitchen table ffl, who had crates and crates of stuff in his garage.

which reminds me, i should prolly go retrieve them from their current location before that property gets sold.

hadn’t even thought about those rifles in years.

In ’94, they were probably Chinese.

That’s about the time they were as common as most anything else in the local stores.

I should have bought more and I should have held on the the ones I bought. Have one Yugo now.

Oh yes, the Norinco SKS. I have both the rifle and carbine version. Great shooters and neither have ever failed to go bang. Back in the early 90′s you could get a rifle and 1,000 rounds for under $150 IIRC. Now I see them selling for $300+.

i dont even know what version they are,

all we knew was they were 40$ a rifle in crates of 10 with all kinds of cool shit, and the ammo was cheap as hell. Since we “put them down” we havent even touched the spot where they are, out of sight out of mind and all,

i think we pretty much verified that they were all real rifles, and then we set em up for loooooong term storage.

that old guy was cool as hell, he always had all kinds of crap, i think he went to alot of auctions at the ng base nearby.

we ended up with all kinds of cool stuff everytime we swung by

i’ll be the first to admit that my childhood was kind of different than most other folks, had alot of slightly unhinged vets as role models, who thought that kids should know everything they had to teach about what they learned in the service.

and the local neighbors (ie on the bounds of our acerage) were pretty much all serious survivalists, learned alooooot

and alot of what i learned has paid huge dividends in my military carrer
