Streamlight does have some lights with stippled reflectors that put out a nice even light. I will never buy another light that has an incandescent bulb. Way too inefficient for survival work. I will also never buy another light that just has a super bright light without a dimmer setting to work with for long term use. Any light that gives me 200 lumens, but only a 1 hour battery life is useless to me. I almost never need 200 lumens. I need 10 to 20 lumens every damn day. Its nice to have that capability, but usually not required.

I’m not sure about the weight with the mount and shroud, but the mfg lists it at .85oz. The mfg states that the battery will last for a year if left in the auto-brightness mode. I find the auto-mode to be the best option, but if you like, you can adjust the brightness manually.

I like the vest , but dont want to look like Rambo at the range. Decisions decisions. Eventually I am going to want to apply what I’ve learned to my carbine length AR. I understand that slinging up tight w/ the AR will move POI and since the rifle sling tension is not perfectly repeatable the rifle sling attachment point at the gas block is probably off limits. So what I’m looking for is another rig up. Free float tube/ rifle sling swivel etc. I would love to hear suggestions. Also… The metal on metal contact at the butt stock end of the rifle sling is very loud. If anyone has any creative ideas on how to retain the QD capability here but effectively silence it I would like to hear them. I was thinking some kind of paracord loop might work well but thought I might check the hive for better ideas. I guess maybe I’ll see if its broke before I fix it. Generally a good policy. I’ve heard stories of rifle sling tension moving POI 4 MOA from the benched POI. I’ve also heard that the .mil no longer teaches use of the rifle sling for this reason. The rear rifle sling attachment question was when the rifle sling is being used to carry the weapon not when it is being used as a shooting sling. M1A4ME 9/20/2011 6:05:12 AM I put free float tube on some of my AR15′s but I have the standard set up on one carbine and haven’t seen any issues with it. I’m not a match/target shooter so I don’t have a rifle sling so tight that my support hand goes numb from lack of blood flow. My carbine (with rifle sling swivel on the front sight base and a hasty rifle sling in the prone position with Russian surplus ammo will give me a 5 shot group at 300 yds. that is about 4 inches wide by 6 inches tall. I blame the oval group on the SUIT sight which make it kind of hard to put the tip of the inverted pointer on the same spot on the target every time. The idea of Appleseed is not High Power shooting (though what you learn will help you a lot if you decide to do some High Power shooting in the future). The idea of Appleseed is to teach you about the fundamentals of rifle marksmanship and to wake you up to the history/heritage of the events surrounding the birth of our country. How the common folks stood up for each other and worked/fought together to protect each other from harm. You’ll learn a lot and have a lot of fun. I was looking at ordering a rifle sling from Les Tam, I called him up and he stated that he currently has a 8-9 month wait. He recommended Ron Brown who he teach how to make rifle slings. He gave me his info and said to check him out. (My first thought was wow that was pretty cool, only in the high power world would someone pass up a sale, and even help someone take business from him) I looked at his web site www.servicerifleslings.com and it looks pretty good. Also, Creedmoor sells his rifle slings. Does anyone have one of his rifle slings? How are they compared to Turner? Is it worth the extra coin? Thanks KC65 3/18/2011 6:31:50 PM I have all 3. It can get in the way from trying to do a support hand reload as well since the pistol pistol grip hangs down. But I don’t think it will make THAT much of a difference unless you are a pro going for the national championship. Pracitice with what you got, shoot with what you got. Espeically practice your reloads from your belt holder or wherever you are holding your extra shells.

W_E_G 7/3/2010 4:48:41 PM I really like the leather service rifle rifle slings. I used one for 15 years – but had to replace it fairly often. Leather dries out, the holes get enlarged from repeatedly putting a lot of tension on the same set of holes. If you use one in the rain, it will probably be ruined. I’ve ruined two rifle slings that way. I recently switched to the newfangled “biothane” synthetic 54″ sling. I’m sure it is impervious to moisture. I’ve had it to the range about a half-dozen times this season, and so far, it is serving me well. The keepers are a little “grabby” (i.e. don’t slide easily) unless you zap it with silicone spray. Then they move slick as snail-snot, but still stay in place quite well. I think the thing I like most about this rifle sling is the ease of adjusting the pinch-point on my left arm. I didn’t find any, so I worked with a great Holster maker on getting one fabricated. I got it in yesterday. It’s a great holster. Nice leather, good fit and finish, and an excellent fit for the gun. The RMR is well protected on both sides with leather, and the inside is a bit higher to make it easy to holster. If you’re looking for a good leather belt holster, this one will do the job. It was my bad, I didn’t notice the video question. Gabe Suarez might have a video out, but I am not sure. If you check out M4C training section you will find some AAR’s from classes and that might help guide you to an instructor that fits your needs. I will poke around and see if I can find a good AK-47 Accessories video for you. Pat Rogers from EAG also does a AK-47 Accessories class. Best of luck. No problem missing the DVD bit. I didn’t mention it in the first post, because of where I made the post. (Can’t everyone read my mind? ) I am trying to stay away from Suarez’s work. I read his books and I really liked what he had to say, but then…. I read the my guru is better than your guru thread on a different forum. Suarez didn’t fair to well in that thread. Then, I had a run in with him on a different forum. He had the attitude that “It is my way, the only way,…I don’t care what anyone else says I am right.” I would prefer someone with a more open mind. He might be right, but…. I think that when a magazine fed weapon malfunctions, the magazine should naturally be the first thing to look at. Granted it was alot worse in the bad old days of the assault weapons ban, when we were paying $30 a pop for pre-ban mags that were already used up, but still, look at how many companies offer a blinding variety of followers and springs to try to crutch the stanag scope mount arms #21 magazine. How many aftermarket “increased reliability” followers and springs do you see for AK47 magazines? Now that’s a mag that is combat ready. Followers, springs, etc. exist because of the popularity of the M16 mag. Look at all of the crap you can buy for AR’s. People want to tinker with their stuff. If you could make a “tactical” colored AR doo-dad and sell thousands of them, you probably would. I don’t think any of those magazine “upgrades” are necessary, but I’ve never been in combat and my rifles spend their days at the range. My favorite mags are some old Vietnam era 20 rounders that are so old that the finish is long gone–they have gone for thousands of trouble free rounds. Mateba

Several manufacturers offer scope mount s specifically for the Surefire G2, others are flexible enough to fit, and some won’t fit at all. Elzetta, VTAC, VLTOR, and LaRue all offer Surefire G2 sized or flexible scope mount s. You definitely want to check before buying a scope mount that it works with the Surefire G2. I have a Surefire G2 in a Vltor scope mount on a carbine and it likes to slip out of place after some shooting. A little electrical tape around the light’s body keeps it in place pretty good though. This is why I encourage people to spend the extra $10 and get a Surefire 6P. I have heard a lot of people have issues with the plastic body being “spongy” and being hard to keep in the scope mount . Also, the Surefire 6P will heat-sink better, and doesn’t weigh much more at all. 1-2oz I think, max. Battl3fr0nt

After being awakened by a suspicious noise early in the morning, a homeowner in Denton, Texas went to investigate. The homeowner spotted a pair of criminals attempting to load a welding unit from his property onto a pickup truck. The homeowner retrieved a shotgun and a cell phone, called 911 and then confronted the burglars. At first the pair attempted to hit the homeowner with the truck, but eventually the homeowner got the upper hand and held thieves at gunpoint until police could arrive. The homeowner’s actions also helped police solve another crime; a trailer attached to the criminal’s pickup truck had previously been reported stolen.
