The FAL was probably cheaper to build, and fitting was much easier and some replacement parts are much faster to change out. That said, most problems in the battlefield resulted from poor maintainance, not broken parts.

I do believe the last issue of Small Arms Review had an informative article on the T48(history)---might want to look at that. The new issue is already out, so you won't find it on the rack.

You will see a bunch that are just sanded down type D’s if you stay with retro for any length of time. Was a real popular mod in retroland in the beginning as they command a lot more coins. As far as that goes I’ve seen a B&W production photo in the early 60′s [...]

They haven’t even cleaned it up or anything. Still has smudges on the optics and dirt down in the battery latch area. With no warranty and no way of knowing this wasn’t dropped off a building or something. I think I will play it safe and save my pennies to buy a new-in-box model. sinlessorrow [...]

Mesa said they would have to modify the M4 mold design slightly sometime in the future. TIA! Carey I did quite a bit of training with the shotgun before I shot a 3 gun with it. Maybe it’s my short arms.. but I feel that its actually perfect. I felt like the original stock was [...]

Even with the problems I had with the original 511, I prefer EOTechs due to the reticle design. I find the 65 MOA ring/1 MOA center dot perfect. The 65 MOA outer ring greatly aids in acquiring targets at close range, and the fine resolution of the 1 MOA center dot is great for shooting 200-300 yards. The only thing I dislike is the fact that the brightness always resets to its medium setting, requiring several button pushes to bump it up for shooting in bright daylight. The 1000 hour rated battery life is fine with me – I’m not going into combat and I generally always find some AAs laying around if I need to change batteries once a year. Greg3: 512 rev.F It has been on my Colt M16 (appx 20,000 rds of .556) I then ran it on a Rem870 (appx 300 rds of 3″ 00mag) I gave it a go on my SA M1A (appx 300 rds) until I bought the scope I wanted. Then on to my AR57 11″ upper for a bit (3 50rd mags) Didn’t like it on there as not much rail space on the rear of the upper. The new XPS would be perfect for that one. Now it is at home on my STG556 (appx 3,000rds now)

I regret that I don’t have the mako or triji to do a direct comparison for you but my EOTech has been amazing and I highly recommend it for any shooter. magicstop Bronze Contributor Team Apr 2011 USA NC, USA 129 : 0-0-0 : 6/16/2011 2:52:53 : 6/16/2011 3:03:56 by magicstop] I just wanted to help out your considerations a bit by showing you some pricing that you may not have seen. Trijicon RX30 for $350 here: RX30 That would make it less than your EOTech option, if you are good with the 6.5 moa amber reticle. There are other reticle options for a bit more money to be had elsewhere. Also, you said you like Aimpoint, but don’t want to spend a lot of money to get them mounted. You should REALLY consider the Aimpoint PRO.

The N models are better specs than the regular type I do like Eotech because it needs NO MOUNT As far as 1 MOA Dot vs 2 ,3,4 MOA dot and Have tested 1234 moa dots I like 4moa dot best for a carbine/M4 good to 300M I wont be shooting BAD GUYS past 75 yards anyway IM a civi Also My by turning doown a click or 2 my 4MOA dot turs the same size as my Eotech 551 1MOA dot Pneumagger2/7/2008 3:54:20 PM Actually, now that you mention it, you are right. I remember that missoin. It’s been so long since I’ve played single player I forgot. I pretty much bought the game and been online ever since the second day. It all comes down to preference IMO. I prefer open sights over tube sights (unless I’m shooting a rifle scope, obviously ) so when I pickout my optic it will be a Eotech 512. I’m a civi and a recreational shooter…

I put my LMT MWS upper on my DPMS 308 lower and it fit and function tested fine right before I sold my DPMS… just has a gap near the rear take down pin where the MWS is more angled and the dpms upper is more rounded. The extra rounded material is why the DPMS would not fit on the MWS lower. I asked Rainier to see if an MWS would fit on a MaTen lower and John came back saying that it did (MaTen has an angled lower so shouldn’t be much if any gap). Not sure about POF… it looks rounded like DPMS… if it fits DPMS uppers I bet it would fit an MWS upper. boarklr 6/25/2011 7:46:41 PM I’ve owned two Springfield m1a’s….a scout and a socom 16, and I had similar considerations to yours. I switched to an LMT MWS and I don’t miss the m1a’s at all. I’ll never go back. m1awolf 6/27/2011 12:19:34 AM Note my screen name as well, I learned to love the m14 in the Navy and just had to have an M1A. I carried it hunting for years and it was a bitch to get scoped but I loved that rifle and I took countless deer with it. That being said I picked up a DPMS AP4 7.62 put a Leupold in a LaRue mount on it and haven’t looked back. Don’t get me wrong I still love the M1A Accessories and it’s a blast to shoot steel at 300yrds with open sights and hit 20 of 20 and make the benchshooters cringe 1811guy

6/27/2011 4:10:06 PM I have never owned an M1A, but after getting rid of my PTR91 (what a terrible rifle), I opted with a .308 AR build (MA TEN) over the M1A Accessories for reasons specified above. I wish I would have gotten one a long time ago, it is one of the nicest shooting rifles I own. Lougotzz

6/27/2011 5:02:22 PM I had 2 M1′a. I sold one. I still have the other. I will not sell it. Mostly because I wont have the moeny to buy it back if I desire. I have been building an armalite ar 10. I now have the complete lower built. I put in a geiselle sa trigger and it is nice. Waiting for the july 4th sale. I might go 10T or NM upper. If I dont have the funds I will do the christmas sale. But the AR10 is a nice rifle to shoot. I shot one at my range and it is a big ar15. everything about it is good. SodaPop 6/29/2011 6:38:17 PM I feel your pain, I love my FAL, but now that Magpul is making 308 Pmags, and I got to shoot an LWRC Repr a few days ago, I’m seriously considering getting another 308 semi-auto.

hi, guys could you please give me some suggestion on my next rifle? –

BTW, I had to turn each adjustment knob almost 1 1/2 turns to sight it in. Is that unusual? Do not take off your battery compartment when the sight is still on…. what distance are you sighting in…making that kind of adjustment to sight in an optic is not unusual. I thought I did turn [...]

Shooting Targets

I do have them in my SKS’s Even without the spring installed, they offer a reduced chance of a slam fire. Instead of a conical shaped firing pin head pushing up into a conical shaped hole, the pin is just round at the end and never contacts the conical hole in the bolt.

The one real problem with them is that if you have a pierced primer the flame entering the bolt through the hole will take the temper out of the spring and render it useless. Even with the spring in this condition the pin still functions properly. Mr. Murray has also discovered what seems to be the cause of a lot of these pierced primer incidents. On a lot of SKS Rifle Stocks bolts, there seems to be a burr or raised edge around the firing pin hole on the face of the bolt. By removing this burr it stopped my SKS’s from having any more pierced primers.
